Dr. Jim Hansen steps down as VEC Judge, continues focus on own climate change work

Dr James Hansen has stepped down as judge of the Virgin Earth Challenge (VEC). He continues to focus on other commitments in the climate change arena, including on-going research and advocacy.

Dr Hansen joined as a judge of the VEC in 2007 whilst serving as the Head of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Since then he has published several leading scientific papers, including a paper from 2008 which discussed the need to decrease levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. We are enormously grateful for Dr Hansen’s input during his time as a judge.

The Virgin Earth Challenge brings together a judging panel of world leaders in this field including Former Vice President Al Gore, Sir Crispin Tickell, James Lovelock, Tim Flannery and Richard Branson. The challenge offers a $25M innovation prize for economically viable and socially and environmentally beneficial ways of removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Working together, the team of judges will decide the final winners after entries have met the challenge’s tough criteria.
